Kauto Star is a French bred Champion National Hunt horse and was foaled on the 19th March in the year of 2000. Now retired from the sport of horse racing in the UK, Kauto was purchased by Paul Nicholls for the very luck owner, Clive Smith, in 2004 and the rest as they say is history! Clive had just recently been outbid by JP McManus for the horse Garde Champetre and 400,000 of Clive’s luckiest Guineas were then invested in one of the greatest horses to ever grace the race track, all hail the King, King Kauto!
This incredible horse now remains in the hearts of tens of thousands of horse racing fans, the world over. The Nicholl’s yard were lucky enough to train the mighty Denman during Kauto’s reign, during some of the most exciting jump seasons that the National Hunt sphere had seen for many a year. Kauto Star and Denman were housed directly next to one another in the Nicholl’s yard at Ditcheat and became best friends off course and the fiercest of rivals on it!
This incredible racehorse, managed to capture the imagination of not only the racing world but the public at large. The beauty of National Hunt racing in comparison to it’s blue blooded flat racing ‘brother’ is that fans of the sport get to re-ignite their love and passion for these National Hunt horses, year after year. With all being well, these horses can race over the obstacles from the age of around five years old, right up to around twelve or thirteen. Flat racing’s stars are usually sent to the breeding program after one year at the race track! Kauto Star’s fan base were able to appreciate him at the track for very nearly a decade!
